Blitzkid retirement interview!

In 1997 BlitzKid emerged from the murky depths of Bluefield, Virgina and took the world by storm with their intoxicating sond and phenomenal stage presence. BlitzKid is one of the most talented Horror Rock bands to ever hit the scene. They have been entertaining us for so long and unfortunately have decided to retire. One thing is for sure the genre will not be the same with out them. I had the honor to one last interview with Argyle Goolsby and here’s the man himself…

BBM: What’s your name and what do you do for the band?
argyle goolsby. bass. one half of the vocals.

BBM: Give me a little history on the band how did you form?
TB and i decided that we were tired of never getting to see any punk rock bands in WV so
we started one of our own and it just grew from there.

BBM: How did you come up with the name?
Bitzkid is the name of a character in one of our first songs, Slaughter at the Sock Hop.

BBM: how would you say the sound of the band has changed since forming??
We werent a horror rock band at first but moved in that direction pretty early, so that was the first transition. Initially we sang all about horror movies. it was like reading the back of a VHS box. We grew into more of a storyboard approach to our songs later on and explored more introsepctive lyrics. Weve alwasy been an experimental band, but at the heart i think we have always retained our early sound.

BBM: Whats bringing about the retirement?
We LOVE touring. we LOVE our fans. we love playing music with ALL of our heart. Life just sends you in directions sometimes that you didnt really plan on going into. For Blitzkid its not a matter of wanting to do it or not. It's a matter of us not being able to do it 110% anymore because of other things like family, and careers. And honestely, if we cant do it 110% then we will not do it at all. We're not going to be one of those bands that get up on stage every night and fake it. We won't allow that so we're bowing out now in respect to ourselves, our music we have created, and most of all our fans who support us.

BBM: Three words that describe the band?
honest. appreciative. melodic.

BBM: What are some of your favorite horror movies?
old german expressionistic silent flicks. nosferatu, der golem, cabinet of dr. caligari, metropolis, etc.

BBM: A fact that a fan may not know about you?
im an expert knife thrower.

BBM: Whats currently in heavy rotation in your Ipod?
lurking corpses. mermen. gogol bordello. nim vind.

BBM: What are your thoughts on the current horror rock scene?
The scene i came up in was more of a community. you knew everyone. not to say that isnt the case now. Its just that everyone knows everybody through facebook but dont really know each other. thats not really a particular fault to horror rock . its just the way of technology. it goes for every genre. only thing is i have zero patience for that shit so im tuned out of it. when im on the road, its a different story. i can meet bands. i can meet people. make connections. ive heard some really good stuff and some really bad stuff. just like its always been.

BBM: Favorite place to tour and why?
Europe. better crowds. better venues. better drives. better food.

BBM: Funniest touring moment?
making money a couple of times.

BBM: After all these years what one of your fondest memories?
Making it home alive each tour.

BBM: Where do you find inspiration in life?
nature. You wont find me hugging trees but you will find me out in it. Heart of Darkness style.

BBM: What are some words of wisdom you would give a youth wanting to start a horror rock band?
If you're going to do it, explore it. dont just blood and gut it.

BBM: Where can fans find the latest news/merch?
www.blitzkid.com or merchdirect or xtrax or itunes

BBM: What would a farewell message to the fans be?
Without you there was no us. Through you now we will live on. Thank you.

BBM: Whats next for you guys?
One last tour through Europe.

BBM: Any last words anything you want to ad??
Thanks. Long Live The Horror.
